Facing The Giants

Winston Churchill once said that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Fear can be mind numbing, paralyzing, and is the main culprit in holding us back from fulfilling our goals and dreams.

But the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7…
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

The word for “fear” in the verse above is not referring to general fear as it is commonly known. The word in the original greek language is not ‘phobos’ but rather is ‘deilias’ which means “cowardice.” God has not given us a spirit of cowardice. The actual context of the words of 2 Timothy 1:7 refers to partaking in the difficulties of the work of sharing the good news of the free gift of salvation and not to wimp out.

And to take this scipture’s meaning to a broader sense, it can mean that we cannot wimp out on life because of our fears (i.e., cowardice). What are you fearing most in your life today? Lack, illness, failing relationships? What is holding you back from reaching your full potential as the person that God created you to be?

Face your “giants” in your life by taking the time to just write them down. Look at each one and ask yourself, “what’s the worst that could happen?” Hopefully, what you will come to realize ( as I did) that oftentimes, giants (fears) don’t look so threatening when I face them headon and realize that I’m not in this fight by myself. Jesus is with me, and He said He’d never leave or forsake me. All I have to do is to keep the faith and keep my eyes focused on Him and not my circumstances. I believe that He is working on my behalf everyday.

You must believe that He is doing the same for you.
